The director of the Miami-Dade County Police, A lfredo “Freddy” Ramírez , has said through his Twitter account that it was a “cowardly and selective act” of armed violence . The agent lamented that the “cold-blooded killers” fired “indiscriminately at a crowd.”
The wounded were transferred to nearby hospitals and the police have not reported until the moment of the arrest of any suspect. In a press conference picked up by local media, Ramírez indicated that 12 of the injured went to the hospitals by their own means, while the remaining eight were transferred by medical teams.
One of the injured is in critical condition, according to the “Miami Herald” newspaper, which details that the shooting occurred after a vehicle stopped near the exit of the premises and three people got out of the car with assault rifles and pistols and they started firing into the crowd.
This shooting occurred 24 hours after another that occurred in the touristy neighborhood of Wynwood in Miami at midnight on Friday, in which one person died and six others were injured. In an incident labeled a “war zone” by police, the shooting left numerous shell casings and occurred in a lively area on Friday nights and at the start of Memorial Day weekend (Memorial Day, in English), when thousands of tourists travel to Miami.
As in the Miami shooting tonight, the police have not reported detainees or suspects and are investigating a car in which the perpetrators of this attack allegedly escaped from the scene.
Traditionally, this long weekend of Memorial Day, which this year is celebrated on May 31, tends to concern the local authorities who reinforce police mechanisms every year to prevent excesses and violent incidents. The measures were intended to prevent the incidents that occurred last “Spring Break”, spring break and during which dozens of people who did not respect the preventive rules of Covid-19 were arrested and confronted the Police.
